Browne’s Family Profile

Family Profile

Benjamin Browne, affectionately known to all as Ben was born to parents Adrianna and O’Connell on 21 January 1946. He is the last of eight children and is the only boy. Before Ben was born, a blue dove came by and sat on the shoulder of his mother a number of times. She was a bit scared but the dove just kept going and coming. A few weeks after she delivered a beautiful baby boy, and it was Ben himself.

Ben started out going to church with his mother and father at the age of three months and grew up to be a very nice little boy. He was always concerned about people and was very sympathetic. He was well loved by his entire family. Ben grew up without being flogged and we all know what little boys do in growing up, but he was different. One day his mother sent him to buy some fish and instead of Ben taking the fish home to his mother, he got on the truck and drove up and down on the truck. Each time he passed by he would hide from his mother. After returning home his mother said “I will flog you” but he said to his mother “I am sorry for what I have done Mom” His mother was so moved that she just had to hug him tenderly.

Ben started school at the age of five and was very intelligent. He was also the best behaved boy at school. All of his teachers were fond of him and wherever there was character and manners he had it. At age 5 he attended the Lambeau Boys School in Tobago and graduated in 1962. His father trained the choir in Lambeau, Tobago which is Pastor Browne’s home church. He was converted and baptized at thirteen and served in the church as a genuine Christian. He then became a Sunday school teacher and always desired to be a minister of the gospel. When Ben was 16 years old he was preaching in the church, and filled with the Holy Ghost he walked out of the church with his Bible and went to chosen homes in the village, warning people to repent and be baptized for the kingdom of God is at hand.

At the age of 18, Ben went to Bible School with bright hopes. From 1964 – 1968 he studied at the West Indies Theological College at La Pastora, Trinidad. He was also a graduate of Haggai Institute in Singapore. During his tenure at Bible School in Trinidad, he met his lovely bride Miss June Wiggins of Barbados who is now the First Lady of the Cayon Church of God. They were married on 16th July 1968 and three years after, in 1971 they became the proud parents who gave birth to their only child, a son David Browne.

Ben’s hobby was fishing, and conversing with his school mates telling them it is nice to serve the Lord. The Christian life was a part of Ben at a very early stage and he never lapsed in serving God. Pastor Benjamin Browne became a full time minister of the gospel and today he is a great evangelist spreading the good news all over the universe.

Pastor Browne and his family served in Guyana at Wismar Church of God for five (5) years: 1968 – 1973. However, in 1973 he felt the call to move to the island of St. Kitts and in August of 1973 he and his family arrived on a little nine seater plane at the then Golden Rock Airport in St Kitts. With great expectation and much anticipation, they were warmly received by the Cayon Church of God and began serving that community.

Pastor Benjamin Browne is a man of vision. He dreams a lot with his eyes wide open. He not only dreams but he implements his dreams. He is daring, he pushes forward and he encourages his members to do the same. Yet Pastor Browne is humble. He is not a dictator but leads with a sense of democracy. One of his favourite scriptures is “Lord teach me to number my days so that I may apply my heart to wisdom.”

Pastor Ben ministers to people throughout St Kitts and Nevis. He is well loved and known to people from every denomination, age, class and sex. He ministers when you are sick and he ministers when you are well. He ministers during the day and in the night time and even in the wee hours of the morning. His ministry is not confined to St Kitts but he ministers in many other islands starting from Guyana through the Caribbean, Turks and Caicos islands, Canada and the United States. Including his ministry to the community and the federation at large, he dedicates the babies to God and counsels the young, teenagers and adults. He enjoys marrying couples and faithfully buries the dead. His powerful riveting sermons are a highlight to the members of the Cayon Church of God and a scare for the unbelievers.

Pastor Ben Browne is a family man. He is a good husband and father. He is a good housekeeper, a good cook, and a good washer. His ironing is flawless. He is always well groomed in public both in body and spirit. He teaches by example and conducts himself honourably as a man of God. He leads with purpose; he lives with a goal; he laughs with a ring; he is loved by us all.

To date, Pastor Browne and his family have faithfully and steadfastly served the church, its community and the nation in their labour of love and humility for 40 years.

Juanita, better known to all who know and love her as June, was born on January 15, 1940. She is the second child but the first daughter of the late Dr. And Mrs William H Wiggins. She was educated at the Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School from which she graduated at the tender age of seventeen, having done extremely well in the General Certificate of Education. Her subject passes included a certificate in Spanish.

June proceeded to open her own school and did so very successfully for one so young. Her youngest sister Arlene attended that same school where she was given her introduction to academic learning and received greater spiritual instruction. June is an excellent teacher.

In 1960 June received a teaching appointment at her alma mater, the Seventh Day

Adventist School. She taught there for three years before joining the staff at the

Federal High School where her students adored her and did very well under her tutelage.

June always had a great love for music. From quite an early age, her father recognized this talent and was instrumental in teaching her how to caress the ivory keys to extract the beautiful strains to which she had grown accustomed. She gave piano lessons at her home from which she turned out some students who are now accomplished pianists. She is an engaging School teacher, Choir Member and Youth Worker, later serving as the Church Organist, just for the love of it and for the glory of God. To this day, June is a devout Christian woman with an almost childlike unquestionable faith in God.

In 1966, at the age of twenty-six, she got a distinct call from God to enter the West Indies Bible Institute in La Pastora, Trinidad, to prepare herself for ministry as a Christian Education worker. The course lasted for two years during which June deepened her commitment to God and made many interesting and lasting relationships. Needless to say June graduated with honors. It was there also that she met the charming, illustrious, and charismatic man of God, now the Rev Benjamin Browne. He was then a student Pastor, having completed the first two years of his ministerial course. A wonderful courtship ensued, and June, always seeking God’s will for her life, prayed for God’s direction in this relationship. Convinced that this was God’s will for her, June joyfully accepted when Ben proposed. At the end of those two years June returned home to Barbados to become the blushing, radiant bride of Pastor Ben Browne at the Chapman Street Church of God in 1968. Truly, he was worth waiting for, because as it turned out, theirs was a match made in Heaven. Never has there been a love like June and Ben’s!

Their first assignment as a couple was to the church in Wismar, Guyana where a family atmosphere existed. The experience was a challenging one for them but God’s presence was very real. June played the piano, often accompanying herself as she rendered her solos and sometimes joined the Minister before his sermon. This was always inspirational. June also continued to teach there.

In 1971, a new dimension was added to their life when they became the proud parents of little David, their only child, born in Barbados. After spending five years in Guyana, Ben and June responded to God’s call to serve in St Christopher, a position which they continue to hold. Upon her arrival, June’s love for teaching and working with children had placed her at the Salvation Army where she held the position of Deputy Principal. At the Cayon Church of God, Sis Juanita Browne is well loved and respected as the “right hand” of her husband where she continues to work for God with a strong devotion for Kittitians and all those with whom she comes into contact. Sis Browne’s friendly and pleasing attitude puts persons at ease. Her supporting role as wife, mother, organist, choir director among others, must not be underestimated or taken for granted.

Sis Juanita Browne is the faithful, silent partner of the Pastor giving him time to do his ministry both on the island and overseas. A very faithful organist and Sunday school teacher, she puts her soul into music and really enhances the singing in the church. She is very profound in her thinking and very practical. She is always willing to do whatever is asked of her.

What a tremendous blessing to the ministry at the Cayon Church of God!

In 1971, on the island of Barbados, a son was born to Pastor and Sis. Browne and they called his name David. The only child of his father and mother, David is loved with a special love by all.

Upon his arrival to St Kitts he attended the Cayon Primary and later the Cayon High where he demonstrated his ability in the field of athletics. Over the years he has developed into a steady young man with a determination and a desire to follow the Lord. Like his father, David is very devoted to his mother and like his mother, he has a special interest in music. In his early years, his love for music gave birth to his desire to lead a young group of singers known as “Movements” This group performed very well in church and David composed most of the songs they did. He then later became the keyboardist of a renowned gospel band, “Bond of Love” and performed a number of hit songs from several albums they produced. An accomplished musician, composer and arranger, David has excelled in this gift of music that God has blessed him with and is using it for the glory of God. Currently he trains and manages a young and dynamic group of talented teenagers known to us all as the Alpha Band.

David is a tremendous asset to his mother who is the Church organist and the Worship ministry at the Cayon Church of God. His witty, humorous and fun-loving personality has earned him the reputation of someone who will certainly make your sides split with laughter even if you didn’t want to. David is very committed to the work at the Cayon Church of God and is currently responsible for co-ordinating the multi-media ministry aspect of the church.

David has grown from a boy into a fine young man with a family of his own.

To God be the glory for the service David has given to the ministry of the church.
